In April 2025, Cadplan was contacted by Sophie Hodges Studio to undertake a detailed measured building survey of a remarkable property set within the scenic rolling hills of Toggenburg, near St Gallen, Switzerland. This unique site combined residential, creative, and specialist food-production spaces, making accuracy and clarity in the survey data essential.

The property consisted of a large residential barn alongside the renowned Balikmusík Studio and the Balik salmon factory — the world-famous producer of hand-crafted smoked salmon. With such a diverse mix of uses under one roof, the client required a comprehensive measured survey to support an ambitious modernisation and refurbishment project.

Our team was tasked with producing accurate floor plans and internal elevations throughout the entire complex. Capturing precise measurements in a building of this character and complexity requires both experience and the right blend of traditional surveying techniques and modern digital technology. Ensuring every structural element, internal feature, and functional space was clearly represented was vital for the next stages of architectural planning.

The resulting survey package provided Sophie Hodges Studio with a robust and reliable dataset to inform design decisions, space planning, and future development proposals.
